Transforming Women Program: (Re)producing Justice by Healing Mother(hood) and Sister(hood)
Female leadership is and has been essential in every aspect of human life. Our leadership ensures the functioning of families and communities at every level of society. From food production to reproduction, from the caring economy to education, whether in finance, business, health, science, the arts, and sports, females are leading: often against entrenched and unconscious barriers. And yet many females don’t see themselves as leaders.
Sexism has had devastating effects on our lives and leadership. The excuse for sexism has been female reproduction: our ability to create life—whether or not we decide or are able to do so. In this Transforming Women Program, we will explore our relationship with our first leader: our mothers. We will begin to understand how this relationship continues to shape our leadership today.
Using a social justice healing framework and practice we’ll learn the differences between male domination, sexism, and internalized sexism, and explore their intersections with racism, genocide, imperialism, anti-Jewish, and other oppressions. Together we will commit to boldly lead toward a just world for all.
Participants will leave this program with new insights about and connections between your leadership, motherhood, and reproduction. You will be encouraged to cherish your female selves, your sisters, and our female reproductive planet. Renewed in your leadership and supported by a sisterhood built on authenticity and liberation, participants will heal from internalized powerlessness and defeat, taking stands against institutionalized trivialization, care-taking, and accommodation.
LJIST’s transformational programs are comprised of an in-person retreat and a remote 10-week follow-up Just Listening small group coaching program. Just Listening begins the week after completing the in-person retreat, solidifies the learning, and creates a Community of Practice (CoP) committed to living the program teachings. Participants meet weekly in their Listening Partnerships (established during the retreat). A workbook, micro-learnings videos, and weekly emails support the Listening Partnership practice throughout the 10-week program. At the midway point and the end of Just Listening, participants join a 2-hour small group video coaching session (limited to 8 participants each) facilitated by the LJIST team.
