Máiri Breen Rothman, CNM, DM
Máiri has been a midwife for 28 years, and was a proud member of the first class of Doctors of Midwifery in the United States. A fierce advocate for women’s sovereignty, she has practiced in home, birth center, and hospital settings. In addition to birth work, Máiri specializes in peri- and post-menopause. Recognizing the treasures within that stage of women’s development, Máiri integrates her health care knowledge with a deep attention to what has heart and meaning. She pioneered Wise Wymmyn Circles™, a combination of individual well-body annual exams and group sessions which provide a place for mature women to connect around life and health through journaling, guided meditation, voice, movement, and ritual. Máiri has also studied feminine and earth-based spirituality, and has led many rituals and circles, from naming ceremonies, to coming of age ceremonies, to healing circles. Mairi has taught at Georgetown University and the University of MD, and as guest lecturer at George Washington University, Johns Hopkins, and NYU, among others. Máiri has presented at the International Conference on Women and Spirituality at the University of Minnesota, at the Sacred Circles Conference at the National Cathedral in DC, and for Eighth Day Retreats in Maryland. In her spare time, Máiri leads a women’s choir and enjoys traveling, movies, and snuggling with her grandbaby. https://quickening.midwife.org/meetings-more/annual-meeting/heart-of-midwifery-enriching-the-acnm-annual-meeting-for-nearly-20-years/?noamp=mobile
