Nancy Marcy
A former physical education and health teacher, I have been practicing and teaching yoga since 2000. I am drawn to yoga because it is a powerful healer, builder of community, sculptor of aesthetic space, and guide for ethical and spiritual development. There are many types of yoga, though all of them share basic tenets. Iyengar Yoga resonates with me because of its precision, discipline, and keen focus on proper, healthful biomechanics. From 2012-2015, I completed 500-hour yoga teacher training through Spirit of the Lake while concurrently studying Iyengar Yoga pedagogy under the mentorship of Momi Jhung and William Prottengeier. I am a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher (CIYT) at the Intermediate Junior I level and continue training with senior Iyengar teachers Joy Laine and Chris Saudek. I am also certified as a yoga therapist (C-IAYT) by the International Association of Yoga Therapy. Because of my background in coaching, dance, and developmental/adapted physical education, I have a keen interest in working one-on-one with people to help them learn and use yoga asana for their individualized needs, whether they be for the purpose of athletic progress, to increase range of motion, or to remediate joint pain. I am also trained in Ayurveda, and can work with students to develop healthy nutritional and self-care habits according to their personal constitution.
